Florida
A Florida divorce court may serve a couple court-ordered, mandatory mediation or counseling in a few cases.
If there are minor children, ages 0-18, involved in the divorce, then a Florida court may order the spouses to seek counseling. In other states, some courts will order parents to attend a seminar on the affects of divorce on children as well as seeing a family counselor.
A court may order spouses to seek counseling or mediation if one of the spouses does not or will not agree that the divorce is irreparably broken. In cases like this, the the court will order the divorce proceedings to be delayed for three months until the couple has reached a settlement agreement and can proceed with the divorce process.
