Florida Divorce Laws | Alimony

Florida

Spousal support, or alimony, is an available option in Florida. The court may order spousal support or alimony to be paid in a lump sum at one time, or paid in yearly, monthly, weekly, or any other increments decided by the court. Spousal support or alimony may also be determined to be temporary or permanent.

The amount of spousal support or alimony awarded to one spouse depends of a number of factors including, but not limited to: time necessary for a spouse to train or educate themselves to obtain an appropriate job, length of the marriage, the spouse’s assets and property holdings, and the standard of living established during the marriage. Also, adultery and marital fault are considered when the courts decide on the matter of spousal support or alimony.
