There are literally millions of reasons why someone would file for divorce, but when you boil all those reasons down, they will usually fall into one of these ten categories. Some of these issues can be addressed and fixed if you catch and address them in time, but others, like cheating, may not be fixable.
Infidelity
There are usually underlying reasons one chooses to cheat on their spouse, but regardless of why someone cheats, it’s still one of the most common reasons for divorce in the United States.
Refusal to Accept Growth
Everyone changes, it’s a natural part of life. The person you married will not be the same person twenty years from now. Refusing to accept the person your spouse grows into will inevitably lead to fight and possibly divorce if the issue is not addressed.
In-Law Problems
Whether you like it or not, when you get married, you’re also marrying your spouse’s family. Holding a different opinion about your spouse’s family may have you filing for divorce online because though it may seem like a small thing to you, in the end, family does have an influence over whether or not you stay married.
Physical, Emotional, or Verbal Abuse
No one should ever stay in a marriage where they’re being abused. 99.9% of the time, the abuse will not stop. This is another of the biggest reasons as to why people file for divorce.
Finances
Regardless of whether you believe that money is the root of all evil, it is the root of many disputes between married couples. Those unable to curb their spending habits or earn a substantial living find themselves going through the divorce process more often than not.
Stress
When stress isn’t addressed, it builds up and can manifest itself in many forms, from abuse to sexual problems. If you continue to let the stress build, it can ultimately lead to fighting and an inevitable divorce.
Addiction
Addiction of any form (Alcohol, drugs, sex, etc.), if left untreated can ruin a marriage and possibly the life the addicted spouse.
Mental Issues
Some people are unaware or refuse to admit they have a mental disorder such as depression or bi-polar disorder. Mental issues such as these can cause a multitude of problems, especially if the unaffected spouse is not aware of the issues. They will think it is your personality and quickly begin filling of the divorce forms.
Lack of Communication
One of the most common reasons for divorce is also one of the easiest to fix. A lack of communication and more importantly, lack of compromise leaves bullheaded couples at a crossroads. An open dialogue and concern for your partner’s feelings can leave this common reason for divorce off your person list.
Time Apart
Married couples need to be together in order to grow and mature together. Though independence in a marriage is necessary, too much time away from your spouse can make it seem like you’re getting to know someone new the times you do see them. It also makes cheating easier for both individuals which, as we know, leads to divorce.
